Japanese Bobtail is an attractive and beautiful breed of cats with an unusually bobbed tail, which resembles more to the tail of rabbits. The phenomenon of bobbed tail is a result of genetic mutation caused by recessive genes. Native to Japan and Southeast Asia, Japanese Bobtails are now found throughout the world. In Japan, the breed is known for centuries where it also appears in Japanese Folklore and pieces of ancient art.

Japanese bobtails can have white, black, red or many other colors. Body is medium-sized with a long torso and well-developed muscles. Legs are long, slender and high with hind legs longer than fore legs. Paws are oval with five toes in front and four behind. Coat is medium long, soft and silky. Their ears are upright and widely set apart at right angles to the head. Muzzle is fairly broad and round. Eyes are large and oval. With their sweet-tempered, affectionate, active, intelligent and talkative temperaments, Japanese bobtail cats become the best family pets, which can often supervise household chores and baby-sitting.
