Siamese Cat Breed Informations and Siamese Cat Facts
The Siamese cat is the most popular cat breed around the globe with features that are easy to recognize. Although its name suggests that the Siamese cat?s ancestry emerged from Thailand or ancient Siam, people believe that they originated from Southeast Asia but not necessarily in Thailand.

In the year 1884, a British Counsel-General named Owen Gould brought the first pair of Siamese cats to Britain. Owen Gould gave the cats as gifts to his sister Veley who ultimately co-founded the Siamese Cat Club in the year 1901. Other Siamese cat fanatics of that time imported additional Siamese cats through the years. It is affirmed that nearly all Siamese cats in Britain emanated from only 11 cats brought in during the tail end of the 19th Century.

A distinctive feature of the Siamese cat breed is its cat?s call, which is intense and haunting. It sounds like a baby?s cry. In addition, Siamese cats are very playful to humans, eager to grab as much attention as they can. They also get along well with other pets in the house.

The lineage of the Balinese cat breed originates from the Siamese cat family but is longhaired. It therefore resembles the Siamese cat in many ways. Its head is wedge-shaped along with its muzzle. The Balinese cat has very big pointed ears and eyes that are gentle and shaped like almonds. It has a silky coat that is medium in length.

In the 1950s, all Siamese cats were shorthaired until a longhaired one appeared in a kitty litter. Two Siamese breeders named Helen Smith and Marion Dorsey decided to continue the line of the longhaired variety. They named the new longhaired Siamese variety the Balinese cat, which is named after Balinese dancers who were elegant.

In 1965, a breeder named Sylvia Holland bought the breeding business of Smith and Dorsey to propagate the Balinese line. She was successful at promoting the Balinese line and was responsible for its recognition as an official cat breed by cat associations.
