Tonkinese is a medium size cat breed that has been been developed by cross breeding a Siamese and a Burmese Cat.  They very distinctive points as found in the Siamese and Himalayan cats.  They are very vocal, lively and friendly cats. First breed of Tonkinese or Tonks was established in Canada in 1984. However, many breeders claim that Tonkinese-like cats have been in existence from as early as 1800s. Tonkinese is more like a Burmese in temperaments than a Siamese.

Tonkinese is a lean and muscular cat with a typically heavier body and a wedge-shaped head. They have large ears that are set towards the outside of their head. They generally come in four colors and a wide variety of patterns including mink, solid and pointed, mink being considered as the most preferable variety for show rings and amongst cats fanciers. Most commonly recognized colors are platinum, champagne, blue and natural. They have golden or bluish-green eyes. Tonkinese is an extremely inquisitive and energetic breed of cats and makes a wonderful companion.

Sphynx or Canadian hairless cat is a breed of rare cats that are well known for its lack of coat. Although hairless cats have been around for many centuries and have been described in many parts of the world but the first successful breed was Sphynx. Due to their hairless coat, Sphynx often keep them warm by cuddling up against other animals and humans, often intending to sleep with their owners under covers.

Despite being described as hairless cats, Sphynx is not truly hairless and the skin is often covered with a very thin layer of hair. They have a sturdy and heavy body with wedge-shaped head. They are best known for their extrovert behaviors, high level of energy, intelligence, curiosity and affectionate temperaments. Sphynx come in a wide variety of colors and marking patterns. Since they do not have any coat, Sphynx cats are literally maintenance-free. However, care should be taken to ensure that they do not remain outdoors for long time, as they can easily develop sunburns.

Turkish Van is one of the rare water-loving breed of cats that are native to Lake Van region in Eastern Turkey. They are fondly called as swimming cats. They are very active, gentle, affectionate, smart, vocal and make a good companion. Turkish Van have been domesticated in southeastern Turkey for centuries, where they were much prized for their unique color, characteristic and temperaments.

Turkish Van has a solidly built and muscular body with a broad shoulder, short neck and wide-set long and muscular legs. They have a semi-long coat that feels like a cashmere. They are good swimmers and love to dabble and play in water. After swimming, they immediately dry out their coat, as they do not have undercoat. Swimming among feline is a rare attribute. Only recognized body color is while the head and tail may have other colors. Their coat is the most distinctive and fascinating traits on Turkish Van. Coat can adapt to extreme climate changes of summer and winter. Turkish Van is a moderately long cat with back legs slightly longer than the front legs.

Singapura, one of the smallest breeds of cats, is a natural breed of cats from Singapore, where the tourism board often uses it as its mascot. Many sculptures of Singapura cats can be found by the Singapore River. Singapura is an intelligent and affectionate breed of cats that often love to seek human company and attention. They have a great tendency to perch atop high places to get a view of the surroundings.

Singapura is a moderately stocky, muscular and medium-sized cat with a very short and fine coat. Fully grown males weigh 6-8 pounds and females weigh 5-6 pounds. They have large, slightly pointed and deep-cupped ears and large almond-shaped eyes, both the eyes and ears being their distinctive characteristics. Their slender tail is slightly longer than body length. Tip of the tail is blunt. Their coat pattern is tabby with individual hair strands having alternating sections of dark and light colors. Chest, muzzle, underside and take the color of light bands. Their recognized coat color is sepia agouti, that is, ‘dark brown ticking on a warm  old ivory ground color’.

Siamese is a domestic breeds of Oriental Cats from southeast Asia, which have descended from sacred temple cats of Siam, Thailand. In Thailand, there are several native breeds of Siamese cats. During the twentieth century, Siamese cats have become extremely popular in North America and Europe. Siamese cats, also known as Thai cats or  Classic Siamese cats, are typically long-lived cats, 15-20 years being the average lifespan and more than 20-years not uncommon.

Siamese cats have almond shaped bright blue eyes. They have a short and flat-lying coat. Original Siamese cats had a kink on their tails, which has been eradicated in the newer breeds. Kinked tail varieties are still found on the streets of Thailand. Siamese cats are affectionate and intelligent cats, best known for their social nature and sometimes also described as extroverts. They can not easily adapt to the changes in environments and to the strangers. Siamese cats are extremely vocal with a loud  and low-pitched voice, which is often compared to the cries of new-born human babies.

Selkirk Rex is a breed of highly curly cats, which is different from other Rex varieties. Selkirk Rex has originated in Montana, USA in 1987. There are two varieties of Selkirk longhaired and shorthaired. They have more plush and thick coat. Selkirk Rex has been developed by crossing cats from American Shorthair, Persians, Himalayans, Exotics and British Shorthair, among others. However, may of the outcrossing are being discontinued or will be discontinued in the near future.

Selkirk is a large and solidly build cat similar to British shorthair cats. They have a very soft coat with a woolly look and feel and with  loose and unstructured curls. Their head is round with large rounded eyes and medium sized ears. They have a distinct muzzle with length being equal to half its width. Selkirk Rex breeds are recognized in many colors and patterns including bi-colors, pointed varieties and mink varieties, among other. They have an extremely dense coat and a very high tendency for shedding. Selkirk Rex is a very tolerant, lovely and patient breed of cats.

Peterbald is a cat breed from Russia that have an elegantly slim body and a distinct head. They are somewhat similar in appearance to the Oriental Shorthair Cats. The first Peterbald breed was created in 1994 in Saint Petersburg in Russia as an experimental cross breed between Don Sphynx and Oriental Shorthair Cats. Later on, in 1996, the breed was given standards by Russian Federation and in the year 1997, the breed was accepted in other parts of the world and also recognized by various associations and breeders.

With their sweet-tampered temperament, intelligence, smartness and friendliness, Peterbald make the best family pets and companions for children. They are not solitary and hence always like to seek human company, often trying to communicate with them and seek their love. The body of Peterbald is narrow and long with almond-shaped eyes and big ears that are set apart. They have very short hair (almost hair-less) and their skin feels like a horse’ muzzle.

Manx is one oldest breeds of naturally occurring cats native the Island of Man, an Island in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland. Manx have a naturally occurring mutation of spine, which shorten the length of tail and thereby results in a range of tail lengths from normal to a small stub like tail or tail-less. Manx cats are well known as hunters, often hunting down animals such as squirrels and opossum that are large than itself. Farmers often use Manx for getting rid of rodents menace. Besides Ireland, large populations of tail-less cats also exist at many other places in Europe.

Hind legs of Manx are longer than the front legs thereby creating a continuous arch from shoulder to rump, which gives them an overall rounded appearance. Depending upon the length of the tails, Manx are classified into different cats. Shorthaired and longhaired both the breeds have a double coat with a thick and short undercoat and long coarse outer coat. With a friendly and affectionate temperaments, Manx are suitable as family pets and companions.
