Out of hundreds of cat breeds all over the world, there are many breeds that are associated with the temples in Asia and especially southeast Asia. Many of such cats are often known as temple cats. Siamese cat is believed to have descended from sacred temple cats of Siam (now in Thailand). In the twentieth century, Siamese cats have become one of the most popular cat breeds in Europe and North America.

Birman is another domestic cat breed that is known as ‘Sacred cat of Burma’ or ‘Temple Cat of Burma’. As per the famous legend, Birman cats are believed as the reincarnation of Burmese priests. Birman,which has been recognized by Cat Fanciers Association, has a pale colored body with darker points and deep blue eyes. In many parts of the world, there are not just temples where the famous cats reside but there are temples of cats, cat itself being revered and respected as lord or god/goddess.

Siamese is a domestic breeds of Oriental Cats from southeast Asia, which have descended from sacred temple cats of Siam, Thailand. In Thailand, there are several native breeds of Siamese cats. During the twentieth century, Siamese cats have become extremely popular in North America and Europe. Siamese cats, also known as Thai cats or  Classic Siamese cats, are typically long-lived cats, 15-20 years being the average lifespan and more than 20-years not uncommon.

Siamese cats have almond shaped bright blue eyes. They have a short and flat-lying coat. Original Siamese cats had a kink on their tails, which has been eradicated in the newer breeds. Kinked tail varieties are still found on the streets of Thailand. Siamese cats are affectionate and intelligent cats, best known for their social nature and sometimes also described as extroverts. They can not easily adapt to the changes in environments and to the strangers. Siamese cats are extremely vocal with a loud  and low-pitched voice, which is often compared to the cries of new-born human babies.

Korat is a breed of small and shorthaired domestic cats from Thailand. Known as ‘good luck cats’ in Thailand, Korats are generally gifted in pairs to to the newlyweds and other well-known people as a token of ;good luck’ wishes. Korats that have been known to Thai people for centuries, made first appearance in USA in the 1950s and in Britain in the 1970s. Korat is a very gentle, active and fun-loving animal. They are generally scared of loud noises.

Body of Korats is muscular with a heart-shaped head, which has a unique feature of being very broad across its eyes. Large and bright eyes tend to become luminous green when the animal attains the age of around four years. Legs are thin and well-proportioned to the overall body dimensions, front legs being shorter than hind legs. The coat is short, shiny and slate bluish grey. The breed has an excellent sense of hearing, smell and sight.
