Sphynx or Canadian hairless cat is a breed of rare cats that are well known for its lack of coat. Although hairless cats have been around for many centuries and have been described in many parts of the world but the first successful breed was Sphynx. Due to their hairless coat, Sphynx often keep them warm by cuddling up against other animals and humans, often intending to sleep with their owners under covers.

Despite being described as hairless cats, Sphynx is not truly hairless and the skin is often covered with a very thin layer of hair. They have a sturdy and heavy body with wedge-shaped head. They are best known for their extrovert behaviors, high level of energy, intelligence, curiosity and affectionate temperaments. Sphynx come in a wide variety of colors and marking patterns. Since they do not have any coat, Sphynx cats are literally maintenance-free. However, care should be taken to ensure that they do not remain outdoors for long time, as they can easily develop sunburns.

Snowshoe is a rare breed of cats that first appeared in 1960 in the United States. It is a relatively newer breed of cats that have been developed by cross-breeding a Siamese cat and a bi-colored American Shorthair cat. It is a sturdy, pointed cat with white markings on the chest, neck and feet. They have great power and agility. Snowshoe cats are generally sweet tempered, energetic, playful, active, intelligent and quite vocal. They can easily adapt to family pets and children.

Snowshoe is a relatively smaller cat with a lean and muscular body. They have large and triangularly shaped ears with slightly rounded tips. Head is also usually triangular and usually with black markings.  Head may be apple-shaped as in a regular breed of cats. Eyes are bright and bluish. Coat is shorthaired and consists of solid and white patterns, which may fall along face, chest, stomach and paws. They come in lilac, blue, fawn, chocolate and lynx colors. Snowshoe is a very social breed, which often requires more attention than most of the other domestic cats.

Selkirk Rex is a breed of highly curly cats, which is different from other Rex varieties. Selkirk Rex has originated in Montana, USA in 1987. There are two varieties of Selkirk longhaired and shorthaired. They have more plush and thick coat. Selkirk Rex has been developed by crossing cats from American Shorthair, Persians, Himalayans, Exotics and British Shorthair, among others. However, may of the outcrossing are being discontinued or will be discontinued in the near future.

Selkirk is a large and solidly build cat similar to British shorthair cats. They have a very soft coat with a woolly look and feel and with  loose and unstructured curls. Their head is round with large rounded eyes and medium sized ears. They have a distinct muzzle with length being equal to half its width. Selkirk Rex breeds are recognized in many colors and patterns including bi-colors, pointed varieties and mink varieties, among other. They have an extremely dense coat and a very high tendency for shedding. Selkirk Rex is a very tolerant, lovely and patient breed of cats.

Maine Coon is a domestic breed of indigenous cats native to the State of Maine, USA, (where it is the Official State Cat) best known for their unique physical appearance. For the cat-lovers, Maine Coon is the second most popular cat breed all over the world. Large bony structure, rectangularly shaped body and long flowing coat are the unique characteristics of  Maine Coon. They are highly intelligent animals with gentle personalities.

One of the largest breeds of cats, Main Conn can weigh up to 18 pounds, can reach a length up to 40 inches and height can go up to 16 inches. Long, tapering and heavily furred tail of Main Coon can reach to a length of 14 inches. The body is solid and muscular with broad chest. Main Coon attains full physical size only by the age of three and half to four years. Longhaired or medium-haired Maine Coon have a soft and silky coat, which is longer on the stomach and shorter on the head and shoulder.  Coat undergoes seasonal variations with a thicker coat in winter and thinner one in summer. The coat comes in many colors including chocolate and lavender.

Korat is a breed of small and shorthaired domestic cats from Thailand. Known as ‘good luck cats’ in Thailand, Korats are generally gifted in pairs to to the newlyweds and other well-known people as a token of ;good luck’ wishes. Korats that have been known to Thai people for centuries, made first appearance in USA in the 1950s and in Britain in the 1970s. Korat is a very gentle, active and fun-loving animal. They are generally scared of loud noises.

Body of Korats is muscular with a heart-shaped head, which has a unique feature of being very broad across its eyes. Large and bright eyes tend to become luminous green when the animal attains the age of around four years. Legs are thin and well-proportioned to the overall body dimensions, front legs being shorter than hind legs. The coat is short, shiny and slate bluish grey. The breed has an excellent sense of hearing, smell and sight.
